ITU WORLD TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 UPDATE

Sarah Bryant takes out 2nd place in the 20-24 female age group section at the ITU World Triathlon Championships , Gold Coast , Australia held 12 September 2009 in a time of 2 hours 13 minutes 29 seconds. Bryant had the honour of being the first New Zealand triathlete to medal at the World Championships.
 
Another top placing went also to a G Force Squad member. Edward Rawles placed 4th overall in the 16-19 Junior Male in the Sprint Distance World Championships.
 
For the two triathletes it was just reward after training over a cold wet New Zealand winter to race in the hot conditions of the Gold Coast.
 
For Bryant it was a return too form , early in the March she competed in the ITU Elite Oceania Champs to withdraw after the swim from a stomach upset. For Rawles it was also a case of redemtion, he also competed at the ITU Oceania Champs in the Junior U/19 Elite Male , to finish well down after sufferring in the heat on the run. After scoring a Gold medal at the Sydney Youth Olympics Team Triathlon much was expected of the young 17 year old. 
 
Other stand out performances from the G Force Team - Elaine Brent had the 5th fastest bike time and Gavin Spiers 5th fastest run time. For Brent it was only her third triathlon ,and Spiers who posted the fastest run time overall at the NZ Long Distance Champs early in the year the Gold Coast event is part of his build up to his favoured distance at the ITU World Long Distance Championships Perth, Australia in October.
